Mr Bojangles

Mr Bojangles

Anyone seen the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Wonder if they know that Mr. Bojangles performed his last dance
The news came down this past Sunday morning
The preacher said the kind soul passed away in a dance hall stool

He had left a note in an old worn out pair of shoes
It didn’t say much for a man that experienced all of life
Next to his shoes was a picture of his dog, and
A few worn out wooden nickles

It said that he had travelled much of the south
Performed for people at every bar and unlit street corner
Brushed with life at every carnival and side show, and
That he still missed his dog after so many years

The old soft shoe used to jump so high
I guess that’s what happens when you liberate a man from his chains
The minstrel show will never be the same again
So let’s celebrate Mr. Bojangles every time we dance.

Thank you,
Joseph Pede
