The Church Bells Chime

The Church Bells Chime

In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost
We are gathered here, in the sight of God
To reflect upon what most of us have so forgotten
To bow our heads in shame as we recall our childhood promises to God

To ask in what chasm our innocence has collapsed
To look upon the pews as they sit solitary in idle adoration
To contemplate on what avarice no longer bends our knees
To behold the last drop of holy water as it dries at the entrance font

Prayers have now become apocryphal anecdotes
Communion hosts have transformed to bitter bread
The gospel echoes but the words are lost in the emptiness

The church bells chime but there is no one rejoicing

Thank you,
Joseph Pede
