A Change of Seasons

A Change of Seasons

Leaves once green turn to blistering red

All that was life now comforts the dead

Barren trees stand as would a fleshless skeleton

Sappy tears cling to the bark as frozen gelatin

Birds have flown south to their sunny retreat

Sparrows in denial heard tweeting from street to street

The wild prepares for its winter hibernation

Nature has decided to lapse into suspended animation

The radiant sun no longer provides a soothing heat

Boots the only cure for the disenchanted feet

In the closet hangs the down-filled parka and scarf

Ready yourself once again for the flu and a comforting barf

The time has come to witness a change of seasons

Violins and the orchestra provide not the logical reasons

Sit back instead to enjoy the warmth of a consoling fire

These the times the unwary find their end by the funeral pyre.

Thank you,
Joseph Pede
