The Tree

The Tree

My feet firmly planted in the ground
My out-stretched arms touch the heavens
My fingers point in all the directions of the universe
My leaves joyfully dance with the passing of a breeze

My bark no different than your skin
My sap flowing like the blood in your veins
My shade brings you comfort on a sunny day
I exhale so that I may bring you life

I die resting peacefully in the frames of your homes
As firewood bringing warmth and comfort to your bones
As timber guiding your whining locomotives, and
As a coffin I will comfort you for all eternity.

Thank you,
Joseph Pede
