School's Out

School's Out

The school bell rings at 3:45
School's out at Del
There is a mad rush inside the halls
Combination locks chatter on the steel lockers
The remains of the day are neatly stored
The panic bar yields and we greet the outdoors
We walk with swagger down Yonge Street
Sam the Record Man's sign is glowing
A portfolio of strippers inside the Zanzibar
Master John features all the new leathers
Queers gather round St Charles Tavern
We made it to the Gasworks
A pitcher or two or three of ale for the boys
A Foot in Cold Water rocks the stage
Pretty girls in minis give us the eye
In a short while we are all a little high
The twenty dollar bill is gone and so are we
Time for the sidewalk and the subway home
That was forty years ago

Cheers,
Joseph Pede
