Power Outage

Power Outage

I found myself in the darkness
Silence appeared out of nowhere
Within moments I was bounded by annoying voices, and
The pitter-patter of a confused little dog
Lit candles burned all about
The fireplace roared as the solitary source of heat
The cold confiscated what little warmth remained
No television, no internet, no electricity
Thrown back into the unexpected primitiveness of life
Powerless to overcome the circumstances
Subdued by technology’s ubiquitous presence
As lame as a sitting duck
Reined like the obedient jackass carrying the master’s load
Yes, we are experiencing a power outage
But more, a valuable lesson.

Thank you,
Joseph Pede
