Mother Mary wants us Consecrated to her - Wear a "Scapular" & give one to each of your Family

Why Mary wants us consecrated to her

By Barb Ernster –
St. Louis de Montfort waited expectantly for the coming of an age when the true disciples of Jesus Christ would be “like sharp arrows in the hand of the powerful” Mary to pierce her enemies (Ps 126:4). He developed the spirituality and theology of true devotion to Mary and called on people to consecrate themselves to Jesus through her. Just as Mary preceded the coming of Jesus the first time, in this “latter” time Mary would precede his second coming, he predicted.
Mary began to appear on earth with some frequency beginning in 1830 to St. Catherine LaBouré, at the Rue de Bac in Paris. The apparitions at LaSalette and Lourdes in France closely followed this. These apparitions imparted greater knowledge and devotion to Mary and affirmed Church teachings about her. Mary also requested prayer and penance for the conversion of sinners.
When she appeared to the three children at Fatima in 1917, she revealed Jesus’ desire to establish in the world devotion to her Immaculate Heart (June 13, 1917). She requested certain spiritual practices related to the devotion, including the Five First Saturdays devotion in reparation for sins committed against her Immaculate Heart and (by virtue of the vision of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel on October 13) the wearing the brown scapular of Mt. Carmel as a sign of entrustment to her. The World Apostolate of Fatima/Blue Army has spread devotion to the Immaculate Heart worldwide since 1947.
In recent decades, there has been an explosion of people consecrating themselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, using de Montfort’s True Devotion program and Father Michael Gaitley’s 33 Days to Morning Glory. This beautiful practice is a sign of your love and devotion to Mary, to be used by her for the good of the Kingdom of God and for the good of others. You are accepting that you are her spiritual child and she your spiritual mother as Jesus ordained at the foot of the cross, when He gave her over to all of us just before He expired.
Here’s what de Montfort had to say of these “apostles” of Mary in our times:
The power of Mary over all the devils will especially shine forth in the latter times, when Satan will lay his snares against her heel: that is to say, her humble slaves and her poor children, whom she will raise up to make war against him. They shall be little and poor in the world’s esteem, and abased before all like the heel, trodden underfoot and persecuted as the heel is by the other members of the body. But in return for this they shall be rich in the grace of God, which Mary shall distribute to them abundantly. They shall be great and exalted before God in sanctity, superior to all other creatures by their lively zeal, and so well sustained with God’s assistance that, with the humility of their heel, in union with Mary, they shall crush the head of the devil and cause Jesus Christ to triumph.
They will know the grandeurs of that Queen, and will consecrate themselves entirely to her service as subjects and slaves of love. They will experience her sweetness and her maternal goodness, and they will love her tenderly like well-beloved children. They will know the mercies of which she is full, and the need they have of her help; and they will have recourse to her in all things, as to their dear advocate and Mediatrix with Jesus Christ. They will know that is the surest, the easiest, the shortest and the most perfect means of going to Jesus Christ; and they will give themselves to Mary, body and soul, without reserve, that they may thus belong entirely to Jesus Christ.
They shall be the true apostles of the latter times, to whom the Lord of Hosts shall give the word and the might to work marvels and to carry off with glory the spoils of His enemies.
They shall be true disciples of Jesus Christ, walking in the footsteps of His poverty, humility, contempt of the world, charity; teaching the narrow way of God in pure truth, according to the holy Gospel, and not according to the maxims of the world; troubling themselves about nothing.
They shall carry on their shoulders the bloody standard of the Cross, the Crucifix in their right hand and the Rosary in their left, the sacred names of Jesus and Mary in their hearts, and the modesty and mortification of Jesus Christ in their behavior.
May the Immaculate Heart of Mary triumph, and may we, her children, triumph with her.

Marian Consecration

Total Consecration to Jesus through MaryJesus told Sister Lucia of His desire that devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary be spread throughout the world and be placed alongside devotion to His Sacred Heart. How could anyone be more devoted than to surrender virtually everything to her in a spirit of holy slavery through Total Consecration to Jesus Christ through Mary? In Sister’s book Calls” From the Message of Fatima we find numerous hints at this Divine invitation.
The Traditional de Montfort Approach
St. Louis de Montfort is credited with developing a 33-day preparation for total consecration to Mary. This is the method that St. John Paul II used to make his consecration, and was the genesis of his papal motto – Totus Tuus – I am totally yours!
True DevotionSt. de Montfort’s True Devotion to Mary book consists of emptying oneself of the spirit of the world and filling oneself with the Spirit of Jesus Christ, which unfolds in three steps:
  1. One week dedicated to coming to a more profound knowledge of ourselves during which we wish to become truly aware of our tendencies to sin and to acquire a spirit of genuine humility.
  2. One week dedicated to coming to a more profound knowledge of the Virgin Mary during which we wish to more fully open our lives to her presence.
  3. One week dedicated to coming to a more profound knowledge of Jesus Christ in which we seek to permit the light of our knowledge of ourselves and of Mary to illuminate our relationship to Jesus, so that we may participate more fully in His life and mission.
A New Approach to Marian Consecration
33DAYFr. Michael E. Gaitley, MIC penned the book, 33 Days to Morning Glory – A Do-It-Yourself Retreat in Preparation for Marian Consecration. Gaitley refers to this method as a “retreat” rather than a preparation, and it consists of four weeks + five days in review – 33 days in all.
He refers to St. Louis de Montfort as the first great apostle of Marian consecration who gathered and synthesized the teachings of the best experts in Marian spirituality of his time, and suggests that, were he alive today, he would present the teaching of our contemporary Marian experts. St. Maximillian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Theresa of Calcutta, and St Pope John Paul II are the three contemporary Marian giants who Father believes have most dramatically added to the beauty and richness of consecration spirituality. For this reason he has included reading about and comprehensive contemplation of their spirituality along with that of St. Louis de Montfort in the retreat.
