Reveille

Reveille

The rooster sounds reveille at the crack of dawn
Most of Mother Nature awakes with a formidable yawn
Bears in winter slumber repose inside their comfortable den
Farmers await a basket of eggs from their favourite hen
Racoons scurry to find a relaxing retreat
Hogs begin their wallow adorning only mud-filled feet
Skeleton-like trees in the landscape transfixed by winter’s frost
Cattle stroll atop the icy fields leaving only a trail of methane exhaust
An icy pond readies for the arrival of a skidding goose
In the backdrop comes the sound of a pooping moose
What more could a poet add to this adventurous scene
Perhaps a mischievous skunk and his aroma-composting machine

Thank you,
Joseph Pede
