State of Sex Robots: These Are the Companies Developing Robotic Lovers

A look at current projects to create synthetic companions.

The long wait may soon be over. Next year the first commercially available sex robots are expected to hit the market.

If all goes as planned, you’ll be able to take home a robotic love doll—one that’s very lifelike and ready for interactive companionship, both romantic and sexual.

And while certain sexbot projects are further along than others, rival companies are emerging that want a piece of this potentially very lucrative robot pie.

The contenders

Realbotix

The well-known frontrunner is Realbotix, a project launched by Matt McMullen of Abyss Creationsin California last year. The company plans to start taking preorders and release a sexbot prototype in 2017.

Abyss Creations makes the very popular silicone sex doll the RealDoll, versions of which have appeared in movies and TV shows including Lars and the Real Girl and Sons of Anarchy.

The goal of Realbotix is to create a robotic talking head that can be attached to the RealDoll body and gives the illusion of sentience—sex dolls with artificial intelligence. The project aims to release an app that will store the robot’s personality, so you can take it with you on the go. There are also plans to integrate the robot with virtual reality and to eventually add warmth to the skin, possibly even the genitals.

The head is expected to retail for $10,000. After releasing this product, the company said it begin creating the full body, which is estimated to cost between $30,000 and $60,000.

This endeavor is particularly exciting because the Realbotix team includes experts who have worked at Hanson Robotics. This company is world-renowned for creating exceptionally sophisticated humanlike robots equipped with impressive AI software.

Z-onedoll

Chinese company Z-onedolls makes silicone sex dolls and recently announced the sale of a new robotic sex doll: the Silicone Robot. Operated by an Android app, the love doll’s animatronic head can blink and move its eyes and mouth.

It can also carry on Siri-like conversations in Chinese, while an English language system is in development. However, Z-onedoll representative David Lee said the Silicone Robot makes moaning sounds, and customers can download any sounds of their choosing into the love doll.

Like other synthetics sold by the company, this one’s body heats up. Customers can control the temperature through the app, but the head, neck, breasts, hands, and feet don’t offer the warming function.

Lee told Future of Sex two silicone robots are ready for sale, one with heating and one without. They cost $4,900 and $4,450 respectively, with free international shipping, and take 20 to 30 days to produce.

BodAI

Another exciting project is BodAI, founded by Zak Field and Katie Aquino (aka Miss Metaverse). They’re developing artificially intelligent (AI) companions inside a virtual incubator, teaching them to learn from experience and interact with humans.

The main goal isn’t to create an AI for sex, per se, but a friend or helper that could become something more and share love and sexual intimacy. Once complete, the cloud-based AI consciousness is meant to jump fluidly from device to device, depending on where you are at the moment and how you want to communicate.

For example, you could interact with your AI companion in virtual reality, take its personality with you on your smartphone, play together on a gamified social media platform, or download the consciousness into a humanoid robot.

There’s no hard timeline for the release of BodAI’s various platforms, but you can join its newsletter to receive updates.

Doll Sweet

Doll Sweet (also known as DS Doll) is a respected Chinese love doll manufacturer with a talking robotic head in the works. A company representative said the prototype speaks in Chinese, but not yet English.

The company has described the project as a gigantic undertaking requiring an enormous amount of resources. It’s still in the testing phase, but the robotic head may be available next year. According to Doll Sweet, it will have an abundant range of facial expressions and the head will fit on top of its silicone sex dolls’ bodies.

Notable mentions and past projects

Ricky Ma

Hong Kong inventor Ricky Ma grabbed headlines this year with his lifelike Mark 1 robot—particularly for its uncanny resemblance to actress Scarlett Johansson. Taking 18 months and $50,000 to create, the robot responds to spoken phrases and performs detailed facial expressions.

While the Scarjo gynoid wasn’t designed as a sexbot, Ma told the media he’s creating a do-it-yourself sex robot manual. So if you have the skills and money, you could build your own robot companion from home.

True Companion

If you’ve read even a few mainstream news articles on sex robots, chances are you’ve come across Roxxxy by True Companion. Founder and CEO Douglas Hines touted her as the world’s first sex robot and debuted her in 2010 at the Las Vegas Adult Entertainment Expo.

Roxxxy is marketed as having five personality modules, being able to talk and move, and costs $9,995. On its website, the company also sells a male sexbot called Rocky for the same price, which is also said to have a personality and vibrating genitals

Despite wide media coverage that continues today, robot fetishists have expressed they’ve been let down by Roxxxy, saying she was overly hyped and didn’t deliver on promised capabilities. Renowned roboticist David Levy, who’s well-known for his prediction that people will fall in love and marry robots by 2050, also wrote a paper critical of Roxxxy. In it, he expressed strong suspicion over the robot’s authenticity.

Future of Sex asked Hines how many Roxxxy robots he has sold, hoping to address a rumor that none have been bought. However, he declined to give a number stating that his is a private company.

MacMil Cybernetics

MacMil Cybernetics is an American company that created two sex robots: one male named Harry Harddrive and one female named Susie Software. In 2011, they were for sale for between $8,000 and $11,000.

However, it’s unclear whether anyone people bought the sexbots. A few people, including us at Future of Sex, have contacted the company over the past few years without getting a response, leading us to believe it’s not in business.

In the 2011 documentary called My Sex Robot, a robot fetishist named Delosian met the man behind MacMil Cybernetics and saw the two sexbots in action. He also met Roxxxy, with some disappointment

Sex robots of the future?

These are the projects we know about. But there are almost certainly people out there who have been secretly trying to build their own sex robots.

While news headlines and science fiction treat them with fascination, robotic lovers are still viewed as taboo to some degree. The development of sex robots has even been protested. Those who have publically displayed their creations have also dealt with ridicule. So it’s likely other projects are underway and won’t be revealed until they surpass a certain level of quality and realism.

You can even track yourself to see whether what we are talking about is true or not. Just log in with the same account you use on your Smartphone. You will be able to see records of everywhere you have been from day one of that month.

How To Disable Tracking & Erase Your Past History

To check whether location history is enabled on your account, go to the Google Maps Location history page and click the gear-icon button to access History settings.

You can disable or enable the service there. Disabling location history however, does not remove your past history.

If you would like to erase the locations Google Maps has stored for the past 30 days, go back to the Location history page. The default time period shows location history for the current day, so you may not see any plots on the map. Use the pull-down menu below the calendar on the left to show your history, up to 30 days.

If you choose a time period in which Google Maps has tracked your location, you will see the points where you have been on the map. Below the calendar, you will see options to delete your history from the time period you have chosen or to delete all history.

As someone said, so many humans but zero humanity. It is getting worse with each new day because we discover that we are nothing but beasts that should be chained and never released. We kill the weakest, we flirt with the strongest. We colonize what doesn’t belong to us and we destroy what is ours. Long time ago, we have been given a common sense and homo sapiens was on the top of the all creatures. In recent time, the mankind has reached the point of the animal that has never learnt how to think and how to behave.

The wars and social crisis that we have created ourselves is nothing when we compare with the environmental incidents and demolition of the nature. It is happening all over the globe, human race is a pest that doesn’t stop to eat this Planet like a cancer our bodies. Trophy hunting, animal abuse, animal cruelty and so many forms of wildlife and ecological terrorism have turned the Earth into the hot zone. People are literally cleaning the surface from everything what should stay and bringing everything what should be gone. The domino effect, the world is dying and we are applauding.

Nevertheless, the animal prostitution has never been so much spoken in public because its victims are voiceless. They can’t say that they are misused and that some sick Uncle has played with them and touching them in inappropriate way. The animals can not speak and their suffering is never ending. That doesn’t mean it isn’t there, that means it is there and it is almost blessed by the ignorance and indifference of all of us who maybe believe it is just an urban legend.

The animal prostitution is a real problem and hits all of our societies. It is not reserved only for backward countries but also for very modern you would never think they are on the black list of shame. In many lands, the sexual relationship with animal is not considered as illegal or at least it is not limited and processed by the law. That is the biggest problem because it gives space and possibility for many psychopaths and people who are gravitated towards zoophilia to misuse the innocent animals without any fear from the jurisdiction. In some states like in Finland  Hungary and Romania at this moment it is legal to have sex with animals as long as the animals are not hurt. Who will say if animal enjoys that pervert thing and if it is hurt or not? This sounds like the worst horror ever for all compassionate fighters for animal rights. In last years, Denmark is trying to shut down this chapter and announce that bestiality is illegal but this country is already being known as the place with the controversial animal rights and lots of pain for animals. Back in 2014, according to one article, Denmark’s agriculture minister, Dan Jorgensen, proposed a big change:“I propose a change in the law on protection of animals to state explicitly that sexual relations with animals are no longer permitted.Animals have to be treated with respect and care and they have a right to special protection because they cannot say no.” That was the attempt for danish politicians to save Denmark for slipping into the hell of wild west animal sex tourism so in 2015 the progress has been made. It is shameful to even think about the numerous animal brothels around the Denmark that have underground animals that they charge between $85 and $170 for sexual exploitation.  The 76% of people in Denmark support the new law regulation against the sexual abuse of animals but 24% do not want that and some admit they are sexually excited when they think of animals.

The psychology has no excuse for this type of disorder because based on the crime studies, it is directly related to the sexual predators that hunt the humans for their own pleasures. It doesn’t surprise that American FBI has considered animal cruelty and sex with animals as top-tier felony and keep the offenders in the central base. One landmark study “Characteristics of Juvenile Offenders Admitting to Secual Activity With Nonhuman Animals”, the correlation is very important:”There is often a correlation between sexual abuse against animals and sexual violence against humans. Studies of adult sex offenders appear to support the co-occurrence of sexual offenses against humans and animals among some offenders.The data suggests that juvenile animal offenders should be considered a sub-group of sex offenders in that 23 of 24 juveniles (96 percent) who admitted to bestiality also admitted to sexual offenses against humans.”

The organization Occupy for Animals has collected the disturbing materials that shows the high rate of sexual abuse of animals, particularly in civilized Europe. Some of the U.S. states ban bestiality but some have not yet signed it is illegal. That is now one of the growing problems in America, where even now the  3rd gender is having some rights. Just for a reminder, Canada has  also done nothing regarding  this issue!

Germany is also fighting the battle against the sexual offenders that abuse animals. There are evidences that some people consider zoophilia like a lifestyle choice and they sneak into the people’s farms to abuse poor goats and sheep.The people gathered in ZETA believe they have right to have sex with animals and they invite others to join them in erotic zoos.  The websites offer the clips and photos of this kind of bestiality and German authorities promise they will reconsider the national Animal Protection Code and give more accent on ban on zoophilia because the sex with animals is banned in Germany in 1969 but this time it should be stronger and goes together with fine  up to £20,000 for a first offence.

The sexual  tragedy of animals  is not only in Europe. The story about the sexual abused female organutan Pony has made us all think about the terrible situation in the soul of human race. When the foundation Borneo Orangutan Survival and its vet Karmele Llano have informed the public that there are traffickers that kidnap female orangutans and use for sexual industry, the tale of 12-year old  orangutan  Pony has been already told and retold. The poor animal has been saved by the mentioned foundation and she was found as shaved, washed, perfumed and with make up. In other words, she was ready to be misused as a sexual object in a dirty brothels in palm industry sector. Her job was to earn money for her owner:“Pony was chained to a bed, to make easy and free of incidentals the abuse of the poor animal by the customers of a brothel in a village in Central Borneo (Indonesia) called Keremgpangi. They were required 30 state police officers to dislodge the brothel and rescue the animal, who is recovering now in the Bangamat river island, one of the three islands used to reintegrate the great apes,which have suffered any kind of damage in their contact with humans .Llano asserts that orangutans prostitution has become a common practice in Asian countries, especially among workers of logging companies and palm oil plantations, but she warns that it is not the only form of abuse used against orangutans: While female orangutans are tortured and prostituted, the male orangutans are used for boxing shows.”

The global sickness regarding this issue is not our nightmare, it is our shameful reality, the proof that we are broken as an intelligent race and that all we have now is ignorance and egoism. The people who abuse innocent animals for their perverted sexual fantasies are those that must be expelled from the society, jailed and processed. There is nothing naive and non-disturbing about their sexual choices, all they do is a pure sadism and crime that is able to endanger other categories in the future  and to bring the final destruction to the system we are stuck in.

This burning question of animal prostitution, zoophilia and bestiality must be addressed as soon as possible because we are already losing an air in this infectious swamp, known as a mankind.

Why were the Knights Templar so Interested in Harran?

Why were the Knights Templar so Interested in Harran, One of the Oldest Cities in the World?

Harran is one of the oldest cities in the World. Located in southern Turkey, a remarkable feature of this ancient place is its beehive-shaped adobe houses, built entirely of mud without any wood. Their design makes them cool inside and is thought to have been unchanged for at least 3,000 years. Some were still in use as dwellings until the 1980s. Harran dates back to at least the Early Bronze Age, to sometime in the 3rd millennium BC.

Renown as a point on the Silk Road, there are many references to this ancient place in the Bible and, for example, its trade with the Phoenician city Tyre in ‘choice garments, in clothes of blue and embroidered work, and in carpets of colored stuff, bound with cord and made secure’ (Ezekiel 27:23-24).  It is perhaps most famous as the city of Abraham. His birthplace, Sanliurfa, is close by and Harran is the place where his father Terah went to die. My own interest in this city is not, however, in its Biblical connections, fascinating though they are, but in its more esoteric history.

The Christian Interest in Harran and the Ancient Kingdom of Edessa

Harran’s close neighbor, Sanliurfa, holds a clue to this hidden aspect. Sanliurfa has undergone many transformations over the millennia. Most curiously, in the 12th century, when Sanliurfa was a Christian kingdom that went by the name of Edessa, it attracted the attention of the Knights Templar. There seems to be some significance in St Bernard of Clairvaux, and not the Pope, preaching the Second Crusade at Vezelay in Eastern France, not in order to defend Jerusalem but to rescue Edessa after its capture by the Seljuk Turks in 1145.

The question is, why? Why did St Bernard, who was responsible for helping to create the Knights Templar, take such an interest in this land-locked city-state which, as writer Adrian Gilbert points out, was of no strategic importance on the wrong side of the Euphrates? (Adrian Gilbert Magi – the Quest for a Secret Tradition, Bloomsbury, London, 1996 p191) It was quite a military undertaking after all, and not an obvious destination.

Maybe the Knights Templar knew that Edessa could have been the original ‘Ur of the Chaldees’; the place where the Chaldean Magi had spent time.  In the 1920s, Sir Leonard Woolley claimed that the ‘Ur of the Chaldees’ was his excavation of the city of Ur in southern Iraq. What he found was spectacular and extensive: huge quantities of artifacts dating back three thousand years, and much gold, including a beautiful golden sculpture of a ram caught in a thicket. Many of his finds are on display in the British Museum. But important though his find was, I am not convinced that this was the Ur of the Bible. ‘Ur’ is a common word found in ancient times as it has the meaning of ‘foundation’ and can be found in the name of Jerusalem – ‘Uru-shalom’ – meaning ‘place of peace’. It makes more sense that the Chaldean Ur was further north, not least as Abraham makes reference to his conflicts with the Hittites who were based in central Turkey.

Hidden Knowledge in Harran?

The Chaldean magi, an elite of wise men, skilled in the arts of divination, had taken refuge in the remains of the Hittite empire in central Turkey at least a thousand years before the Knights Templar arrived and it is possible that something remained of their occult knowledge in the area. But it is just as likely that the real focus of the Templar attention was Harran itself.

It is important to reflect at this point on what might have been the genuine mission of the Knights Templar. There is no doubt that St Bernard played a key role in creating the cover story that this select group of religiously inspired crusaders existed to protect the routes to Jerusalem. But given the low numbers of Templars, at least to begin with, this explanation does not make sense. What is more plausible is that they had a presence in the Near East because, after the First Crusade in 1097, St Bernard and others from the Court of Burgundy became aware of occult knowledge contained in a body of writings known as the Corpus Hermeticum considered to be ‘older than Noah’ having been composed by Hermes Trismegistus and therefore of great interest. And one group of people who knew a lot about the Hermetica was the Sabians, who at the time of the Crusades lived in Harran.

What made Harran unusual in the 12th century was that it was not Jewish, Islamic or Christian. Its main temple, eventually destroyed by the Mongols in 1259, was dedicated to the Mesopotamian Moon god, Sin. It was also famous as a center of alchemy, as practiced by the Sabians who regarded Hermes as the founder of their school.

A Sabian Sanctuary

The Sabians’ distinctive form of alchemy focused on metals, especially copper, and minerals, rather than gold. In the view of some writers, this distinction indicates a very early tradition, possibly going back to 1200 BC when copper was the chief metal (Jack Lindsay The Origins of Alchemy in Graeco-Roman Egypt, Frederick Muller, London, 1970). There is little doubt that the Sabians’ beliefs and practices date back into ancient times and that they had strong links with Egypt. Indeed, it is possible that the name ‘Sabian’ derives from the ancient Egyptian word for star, sba, and they may have been ancient refugees from Egypt.

The Sabians could have been the last remnants of Egyptian priesthood which mostly disappeared from Egypt in the 4th century when Romano-Christians destroyed what was left of Egyptian temples. As a result of that persecution, they may have found their way up the trade routes to Harran on the northern Euphrates where they felt safe enough.

What kept the Sabians safe and allowed them to continue with their practices was a reference to them in the Koran. The Koran acknowledged that the Sabians were of the religion of Noah and therefore accorded them respect. The precariousness of their existence is, however, recorded in the story of the Caliph of Baghdad who passed through Harran in 830 AD. He wanted to know if those who dressed differently were ‘people of the book’ (i.e. the Koran or Bible). Fortunately, he accepted the response that the Sabians’ ‘book’ was the Hermetica, their prophet was Hermes and they were the Sabians referred to in the Koran and so they were spared death as infidel.

Little did the Caliph realize how much the Sabians had contributed to his own culture, Sabians having helped to found the city of Baghdad in 762 AD and turn it into a great seat of learning. The Sabians were a great ‘conduit for the transmission of ancient wisdom to the Arabs, especially to the Sufi and the Druze (Adrian Gilbert op cit,1996, p70). It was a Sufi alchemist by the name of Jabir ibn Hayyam who had in his possession one of the oldest copies of the most famous Hermetic texts, the Emerald Tablet, and who wrote the magical tales of a Thousand and One Nights. He was skilled in mathematics, medicine and other sciences and was keen on disseminating knowledge of the Pythagorean principles of number (Baigent & Leigh - The Elixir & The Stone, Viking, London, 1997 p41).

Above all, it is thanks to the Sabians, and to the city of Harran, that so much knowledge relating to ancient civilization, to the Egyptians and others, was preserved throughout the Dark Ages and from which we can now once again benefit.
