entities

entities

the word entities resonates like a "cloister bell"
struck in the monastery of thought
not loud, not sudden
but spiraling through the mind

it is a presence
an assembly of what is hidden
tremors in the dark
a whisper confirming that your being is not alone

once a term in logic
it marched through the syllogisms of Aristotle
when early hands traced entities and animals on cave walls
then feeling their gaze come to life

entities, they are more than things
they are a permission granted by existence
a stone not merely resting
but insisting on participating

they split into substance and thought
mind and matter circling each other
like twin stars
unsure which one is the gravity

and still the mystics smiled
for they knew every name is a veil
what we call an entity
is only a lantern, hung before a boundless fire

the word carries incense
it tastes of dust and eternity
each syllable steps carefully
as if crossing a temple floor

the multiplicity is sacred
are we not entities, drifting through one another’s orbits
brief constellations of breath
signed in carbon and memory

when Spinoza wrote of one infinite substance
he loosened the borders
suggesting that every entity
is a wave pretending to be separate from the sea

so the word becomes a threshold
it is to admit that something stands before you
with its own center of gravity
its own inward sky

even silence is an entity
even absence gathers form when named
perhaps that is the mysticism
not that entities are many, but that they are

thank you,
