Evolution by Extinction
Cosmic dust
Transformed into human lust
Single celled life
Given the gift of an afterlife
Corpuscles of watery spores
United to begin our journey on all fours
Oxygen packed the new formed lungs
Mouths began to speak in tongues
Could this have been the origin of Man
Or are we the offspring of a celestial clan
Gifted with reason on creation day
Taught how to worship and when to pray
Genetically made with a curious mind
Capable of good and of an evil unspeakably blind
Given dominion over all of nature
Even to form a political legislature
Nonetheless we have arrived
By chance or good fortune we have survived
Guns and bombs have not destroyed our will to live
We have found it is easier to kill than forgive
Constructed artificial life as the go between
Found the means to manipulate the living gene
Science empowered to seek eternal life
Letting the peons be subjected to death and strife
So you decide if Man will fall
Will technology make humans once again crawl
Has our free-will gone one step beyond
Or will fate once again wave its magic wand
Survival appears to be a contradiction
The end may be “evolution by extinction”
