different dawn

different dawn

the leaves are readying to greet their autumn

trees gracefully shadow their skeletal remains atop the pavement

the vacationing sun grows ever more distant

the laziness of summer has departed

children once again gather in the school yards

the once invisible muffler exhaust now coats the air

squirrels busily gather their winter harvest

sparrows sadly watch as others depart

the remaining actors of summer have begun their retreat

bees, butterflies and mosquitos completely vanquished

sidewalks grow eager to imprint the footprints of each passerby

street lights greet a different dawn

newly christened snow flakes await in the clouds above

the puppy’s business yellows the first winter landscape

the night now sleeps with the rest of life

awakened only by a meddling raccoon

thank you,

joseph pede
