so goes the human race
we started the marathon long ago
passing the baton from generation to generation
then millennia
overcoming war, famine and disease
some blaming God
most thanking Him creation survived
allowing for round two after Eden's failure
our paper trail grew and grew
from stone tablets to hieroglyphics
and finally, to the inked page
from sticks and stones, to forging bombs and guns
from community to demagogues
we survived it all
slowly, our tastes turned sour
learning to love silver-tongued liars
welcoming the clever frauds
allowing deceptions to thrive
learning to love silver-tongued liars
welcoming the clever frauds
allowing deceptions to thrive
now nearing the 100 year dash
the compass is askew
our direction is lost
the baton is riddled with confusion
the final runner directionless
we're tired and worn by design
the recurring noise ringing in our ears
so goes the human race
the finish line came far too soon
thank you,
joseph pede
