From Agnosticism to the Gnosticism
In Gnostic tradition, the Demiurge, often named Yaldabaoth, is a flawed, lower creator god who formed the material world, which some texts view as a prison trapping the divine spark of humanity.
Gnostics see the Demiurge as ignorant of the true, supreme God above him. He created the physical universe to keep souls bound away from the spiritual realm of light. He rules the material realm with the help of subordinate rulers called Archons.
Humans carry a piece of the true spiritual light inside their bodies that the Demiurge did not create. Freedom comes through secret spiritual knowledge rather than blind faith or good works. Figures like Sophia (Wisdom) or Christ bring this knowledge down to help souls wake up. Waking souls leave the material plane after death and return to the true, perfect spiritual realm (the Pleroma).
