Fame and Fortune

we all dream of fame and fortune

life’s misery and obscurity to hopefully shorten

waking to the mundane on a daily basis

approaching life on a near dormant stasis

what would it be like to have unimaginable wealth

blitzkrieging life with vibrant health

buying all that one wants and does not need

forgoing any loyalty to a religious creed

what would it be like to have extraordinary power

usurping all by sitting atop the tallest tower

dictating to anyone your whimsical orders

knowing your reach extends beyond all legals borders

we all dream of such great things

not contemplating the misery that power brings

measuring not the torment seeded by its actions

nor the collateral damage caused by avarice’s transactions

be wise beyond your years

offer words to others that bring heartfelt tears

life is not a journey to the top

but rather constructing truth in one’s own workshop
