Elon Musk - Saviour or Sorcerer

Elon Musk - Saviour or Sorcerer

In his 1953 science-fiction novel Project Mars (a technical treatise on colonizing the Red Planet), von Braun envisioned a future Martian government. He wrote that the Martian colony would be led by ten men, with the supreme leader elected by universal suffrage and given the title of "Elon". This ending is heightened by Elon Musk's maternal grandfather, Joshua Norman Haldeman, an American-born Canadian political activist, who in the 1930s, was a major figure in the "Technocracy Inc." movement in Canada, which argued that democracy had failed and advocated for a society managed by scientists and engineers. The concerns raised in the attached LINK by the Wise Wolf, are the same concerns I wrote about last year. Let summarize what Musk has accomplished and then read you can reference the article.

Musk's major ongoing energy developments include Solar & Storage Gigafactory (Tesla). Tesla is building a massive solar panel and Megapack energy storage manufacturing factory in Brookshire, Texas. The facility aims to produce 100 gigawatts of solar power capacity annually.

AI Data Center Power Plants (xAI) - this to fuel the staggering electricity demands of his artificial intelligence supercomputers, Musk's xAI built and acquired power infrastructure in northern Mississippi and Memphis. This includes operating dozens of makeshift gas-burning turbines and acquiring a natural gas plant, sparking controversy with local residents and environmental groups regarding noise and pollution.

Grid-Scale Batteries (Tesla) - Tesla Energy continues to deploy massive utility-scale battery installations to stabilize local grids, such as a major grid-scale battery facility in Texas and an energy storage mega-project in China.

Virtual Power Plants - through Tesla, Musk has rolled out "Virtual Power Plant" (VPP) networks in locations like South Australia and parts of the US. These systems link together residential solar panels and Tesla Powerwall batteries to supply collective energy back to the public electrical grid during peak demand.

Orbital Data Centers - SpaceX applied to the FCC to launch large constellations of satellites equipped with AI processing capabilities - in the millions. These would perform massive computing tasks in space, transmitting results back to Earth to relieve the strain on terrestrial power grids.

Space-Based Energy - instead of traditional terrestrial power plants, these satellites will capture constant sunlight, which is estimated to be significantly more energy-efficient than ground-based solar arrays.

The "Kardashev" Vision - Musk's long-term roadmap envisions scaling this space compute to hundreds of terawatts. Ultimately, the plan involves constructing factories on the Moon to manufacture these AI satellites and launching them using electromagnetic mass drivers to further reduce reliance on Earth-based resources.

The Conundrum

Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot rollout is targeting public availability by the end of 2026 or early 2027, with targeted internal factory trials and a massive ramp-up in production infrastructure currently underway. The company is building pilot assembly lines to eventually scale production to millions of units at a planned target price of approximately $20,000.00 per robot.

Engineers write the operating system, motor controllers, safety systems, and sensors.

Programmers create algorithms for navigation, object recognition, planning, decision-making, and other tasks. The algorithms define how the robot processes information and acts.

Researchers train models on large datasets. The model learns patterns from data rather than having every rule explicitly programmed. Even though the model generates responses or decisions, humans designed the architecture, selected the training process, and set deployment rules.

The company, research lab, government agency, or individual owner (Elon Musk) decides how the robot is used. They can often update software, set permissions, impose restrictions, or shut the system down.

Modern AI systems can sometimes behave in ways that weren't specifically anticipated by their creators because learned models are complex. This is the Singularity.

Elon Musk has the energy grid, the robot army, and for the time being, the code to control Optimus. Who controls Elon Musk, other than the Watchers?
