Lucifer's Duet
masked muses conjure a divertimento
for the nobles are disillusioned by their crusades
unable to quash the legion of pathetic wretches
they gather in frustration
the opera house filled with drunkenness
the opioid of arrogance flows through their veins
staggering about to find accommodation
the stage awaits a maestro to numb their pain
a duet garbed in mystery emerges
the privileged stare in wonderment
Tartini and Paganini titillate their Stradivari
the reverberating violins soothe their maddened souls
sitting hypnotized by the musical elixir of Lucifer’s duet
the Devil's morphine calms their anger
thank you,
joseph pede
