poem - dire straits

dire straits

are you in dire straits
money for nothing and your "kicks" for free
yah, that was knopfler's famous line
you thought the gravy train would never end
the credit card proved to be an empty bank
you woke up, just as the sheriff knocked on the door
you screwed up
the loose ends could no longer be tied together
you don't work for the government
you are the betrayed host - not the parasite
you can't blame God
He never said success was a bad thing
He actually OK'ed you moving up the ladder
but you should never have placed money above Him
you sought greed rather than the intangible nectar
took the prosperity gospel one shekel too far
the preacher's coupons can't buy redemption
they have no spiritual sauce
the basket of cornucopia misled you
you ate "one apple" too many
better go back to the beginning
the food bank proves to be the perfect metaphor

thank you,
joseph pede
