poem - edge of insanity

edge of insanity

things have changed
you have changed
willingly or by force
the status quo no longer has status
simplicity has succumbed to complexity
and rules have mutated into a labyrinth
the challenge is not in complying
but simply in carrying on
the granite wall provides no sanctuary
to turn back is an impossibility
the descent leads only to the edge of insanity
the new normal was not mere change
it was never a grand new vision
it was the emergence of the irrational
indoctrination into the bizarre
now, existence feels doomed
wickedness breathes down your neck

an omnipresent threat
the crowd turns feral, frightening
the day collapses violently into night
time itself has lost its pulse
tell me
are you insane?
