Novices of Living and Dying
God takes everything, knowing everything is all we seek
The here and now are not ours to keep
We are caught up in life, but all that matters is death
Time is not our trusted ally
Nothing in life belongs to us
Only the memories remain
Pain and sorrow, love and passion
The hereafter has no patience for flesh and bone
We are ghosts managed by God’s insane imagination
Empty apparitions
Strangers to the the mysteries of the afterlife
Novices at living and dying
Hollow shells of earth and dust
Agile mortar only for the indeterminable moment
Soon to be crumbling atoms of rot and decay
To be re-harvested when time permits
Thank you,
Joseph Pede
