Sugar - A Major Ingredient in Food and Politics
Sugar is a prolific drug. It has impacted all facets of our diet. Sugar-coating election platforms, and public policy objectives, has become a saccharin-laced political objective, adding to the overall public consumption of sugar.
There has been much said about dementia, mental health, diabetes, cancer and heart disease. The ubiquitousness of sugar as a main contributor to the pleroma of diseases just mentioned, and others, is seldom discussed. Neither are the addictive qualities of sugar.
A high intake of simple sugars can make cells, including those in the brain, insulin resistant, which can cause brain cells to die - does dementia come to mind!!! Sugar decreases one’s cognitive abilities and impacts one’s self-control. Diabetes can weaken blood vessels and be a central cause of strokes and heart disease. Some scientific communities have determined that sugar encourages cell division and replication. That is known as cancer.
So why has sugar’s impact on the general health of society not been addressed? Because sugar is big money. Sugar is the legal opiate of virtually every multi-national corporation, especially those of which use sugar to produce products for human consumption (i.e. food, candy, medication, soft drinks are but a few examples). Sugar is more dangerous than oxycontin, heroin, cocaine and every other known drug. Chemically produced sugars, refined sugars and artificial sweeteners that are added to so many ingestible products, are even more dangerous. Their impact on the human condition is rarely addressed.
Do we really need politicians adding more unnecessary sugar to our diet?
