The Crossroads
Between “The Crossroads” of highways number 1 and 8
The Sunflower River lazily flowed in a somber state
In the distance was nestled the grandeur of Dockery Plantation
Ruleville and Cleveland to become the famed point of eternal damnation
This was Mississippi's burning original past
The Blues guitar proved more macabre than the banjo's energized Bluegrass
Crafted Mephistophelian melodies erupted through a maniacal intellect
The Devil's past fame had christened him the Fallen Angel's architect
Picking cotton had proven to be a mundane daily chore
The Devil had taught Robert Johnson how to play a supernatural score
The sorcerer tuned Johnson's guitar with the chords of a miraculous hell
When one's convinced of fame and fortune the soul is easy to sell
Thank you,
